Community Development Finance

Access to financial capital is key to building thriving communities.

The center seeks to identify and promote policies and practices that drive investments to communities in ways that are profitable for businesses and sustainable for communities.

Researchers examine the myriad strategies used by governments, businesses and the nonprofit sector to increase capital flows to enterprises in emerging markets and the results of such activities on wealth creation and economic health.

Key areas of study include:

  • The role and impact of community institutions in promoting economic opportunity.
  • Public policy impacts and experience in promoting private-equity investment in underserved markets.
  • Tax credits and other financial incentives designed to drive investments to distressed areas.
  • How communities use investments to promote economic vitality.
